Celebrating 150 Years of The Heart of Wales Line

From transporting freight in the early days and soldiers in WW1, the Heart of Wales Line has stories to tell across generations.

Heart of Wales Line Train

It was one of the few rural lines to survive Beeching’s Axe and has gone on to become both tourist attraction and rural lifeline.

The Industrial Past

The railway line was built to transport coal and other freight from the Welsh valleys up north to the burgeoning factories of the industrial revolution.

A Spectacular Journey

Also known as the Central Wales Line, a ride along the Heart of Wales Line is both a spectacular journey and a chance for you to travel along one of the few authentic rural lines left in the UK.

Aspirations for the Future

Looking ahead, what would people like for the Heart of Wales Line?

A more frequent service with better service on Sundays? A tourist carriage with viewing windows? Local food trolleys? A futuristic hydrogen fuel cell powered train? Or simply a good, reliable service and space for the pushchair/wheelchair/dog and walking boots?
