Welcome to The Old Milking Parlour – your cosy retreat in the heart of the Welsh countryside. Perfect for a peaceful getaway or adventurous family escape, it blends rustic charm with comfort and a little bit of history.
A 300 year old dairy, and surrounded by old barns in the original farmyard it has been carefully furnished and decorated with quirky details from up cycled farm tools and vintage furniture to handmade touches by local artists. Every corner tells a story, making it your place to unwind and explore the beauty of the surrounding area.
Step inside with your kids and dogs, leave your boots in the hallway and duck under a low beam (mind your head!) into a spacious, open plan living area with a vaulted ceiling, comfy sofa, and dining table ,– ideal for relaxing after a day out.
TV and DVD player and DVDs.
Board games and toys and plenty of books for adults and children. We have collected books maps and leaflets on the local area to help you plan your stay and can provide you with Ideas and more recommendations so just ask.
Your kitchen is fully equipped , fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee maker and all the kitchen bits you can think of and perfect for cooking up a post adventure feast!
The cottage has two bedrooms with comfy beds. One a king size with plenty of storage downstairs and the other up a steep 'hit and miss staircase to a room with a balcony and twin beds under the eaves. There is a travel cot available for you and a high chair too as well as baby bath, step, toilet seat and cutlery and crockery and other baby stuff to save you packing them. At the top of the stairs a baby gate is fitted which retracts when not needed.
We can accommodate an extra small child on a flop out mattress if needed but please message as an extra charge may apply.
After a day’s exploring, unwind in the large shower and enjoy our complimentary very locally made toiletries including fragrant shower steamers. Then wrap yourself in huge soft, fluffy towels before relaxing in the cottage where each room has individually controlled heat core radiators-lovely and warm!
Step through the French doors onto the walled patio and take in the views across the valley. Soak up the tranquility with a mug of morning coffee or an evening BBQ. Watch the sun set over the hills while toasting marshmallows and sip hot chocolate provided for you, under a sky full of stars. On a clear night, you might even spot the Milky Way or a glimpse of the Northern Lights.
Say hello to our exuberant Cocker Spaniel Bonnie, who is always looking for her ball and our two cats Blue and Belle can be found wherever there are people to stroke them.
Stroll down our wild meadow where our 4 beautiful Angora goats live with 3 friendly pigs, hens and ducks. We welcome your help with feeding and caring for the animals so please just ask one of us. Our 2 pet lambs Frank and Fleur who are now actually sheep can be found with their friends in the field behind the cottage. Frank is the cuddliest sheep ever and they both, and all their friends love to be fed barley rings by hand!
Follow the path to the old oak tree where there is a swing and seating for admiring the views.
From the cottage door, there are walks in every direction. Wander through the woodland, down the bridleway to a pebbly beach by the shallow river where the water gushes over the rocks and dogs and children love to splash about. Wellies a definite but don’t worry as we have them on loan in many sizes. Or a mud free walk down the quiet country lane, to the sound of birdsong and the trickle of water, where you will find Wern Bridge, perfect for poo sticks and puddles full of tadpoles in spring.
The hedgerows are always full of wild flowers and scented honeysuckle, nuts and berries ready to pick in the autumn.
There are usually sheep, cows and horses to greet you along the way and when the lambs get to their teenage phase and are getting adventurous and brave, they can often escape into the lane.
Red Kites, buzzards and hawks are always seen soaring through the valley and the swallows; who return to us every year to nest in our log store; can be seen in the farmyard. Here, they raise their young and teach them to fly in the skies around us. If you are lucky in May, listen out for the cuckoo and spot the wagtails on the barn roof wagging their tails in the sunshine.
Hares are often running along the lane at the top of the valley and sometimes foxes can be seen in the fields around us.
At night there are always bats catching bugs and often in the silence of the valley, you will hear the owls hooting to each other in our trees.
Private parking for 2-3 cars is found across the lane, directly opposite the cottage and solar lights will guide you a few steps through your private entrance to the door.
We have another barn which can be locked to store bikes and a dry carport for motorbike
