'Train to Play' Grant Scheme Launched

The Heart of Wales Line (HOWL) Community Rail Partnership is pleased to announce a new grant scheme aimed at sporting organisations, associations and clubs to facilitate events that will help them increase their membership and encourage sustainable travel.

We are inviting applications from groups to organise and deliver events that will be held within 2.5 miles of a station on the Heart of Wales Line between 1st July and 31st October 2026.

All funded events will be promoted through our special branding
‘Train 2 Play’ campaign, highlighting sporting and physical activity opportunities that are accessible by rail.

Grants of up to
£400 are available for organisations, although you do not need to apply for the full amount.

Funding can be used for advertising, coaching fees, venue hire, equipment and other costs associated with an event.

We are particularly keen to support organisations that want to introduce new activities, engage new audiences, or provide more accessible versions of your current activities.  We would love to see initiatives that encourage people to use the train to take part.

The deadline for applications is 15th June 2026 at 1pm.

The funding for this project is provided by Transport For Wales.
